Art Analysis Blog

This piece above was done by a contemporary artist named Ajarb Bernard Ategwa. There are silhouettes of two women, who do not have any facial features but are encapsulated by vibrant colors. When I first looked at this piece of art, I felt confused; why do they have no face? What is the deeper meaning behind this painting? But I think the way this artist makes art is based on the fact of the viewer's self-representation. To me, this takes the skin tone out of the person but shows these vibrant colors to which the person is made. They show strength in their pose and professionalism in their outfit. I would own a copy of this piece, and I would be interested in how different people view it. There is not really much backstory to this work, but the artist's different pieces deal with portrait formats and he draws on subjects from neighborhood photographic studios.

  1. This is a really neat art piece. I would enjoy having this in my future office. The artist really used the edge lines to bring out the silhouettes of the woman. Ajarb really used shapes as marks to form patterns and a lot of primary colors.

  2. That's a really good way to look at this piece, without the faces and skin color just the color representing who they are as a person. I don't think I would've gotten to that conclusion on my own! It's a fun piece of art.
